- In your own words, what is intervention?
In my own words intervention is is disrupting the norm
- What was the purpose of this exercise?
the purpose of this was to get us to look away from everyday life and think outside of the box
- Why did you choose to intervene the way you did? I’m looking for more than “I thought it would be funny” or “no one would expect it.” What social/personal/human issue did you intend to comment on? Why? How?
I chose my intervention because i thought it would get people to stop and think about it, not to just look at it and keep walking, but to stop think ad wonder who put that there, and why. I intended to comment on a personal issue of losing an item or material thing.
- Why did you choose the location? I’m looking for more thought than “lots of people would be there, so I went there.” How did the location play up your specific idea?
I chose the location i did because i knew it was a high traffic are and that i would actually get responses from people in that specific area rather than older people at like the mall or just walking down the street.
- Name three specific examples, ideas, artworks or statements you observed in class that helped you plan for this project.
some of the ideas that helped me for this project was documenting yourself putting up flyers like we saw on that one video and those pictures online.
Now pull from all of your answers and write a succinct, coherent three paragraph artist statement about your intervention artwork. Use descriptive language. Explain yourself like the intelligent person you are.
We wake up everyday and do the same exact things, wether we realize it or not everyday is pretty much the same. So what happens when you do something that will disrupt the flow of everyday life, and get people to start thinking? When your walking down town you tend to see lots of flyers advertising special offers or advertising a missing animal or object.
When im walking downtown and I see those flyers and advertisements I don't think much of it. I have found myself at times just ignoring them and continuing on the path to the destination i was going to. Most of those "missing" signs and advertisements or "help wanted" signs just get passed by without any recognition at all.
Thats why i chose to create a flyer that i thought would attract people and get them to stop and ask them selfs "is this serious" or get people to wonder who put this here and why? The goal of this was to also see how many people would actually call the number that was given, which infact was actually my cell phone number.
Jacob, this was one of my favorite ideas. It was so simple, yet so smart and well executed. I wonder what would happen if you took out an ad in the newspaper with the same image? What about a billboard on the side of the road? Is there something about the handmade sign that makes this better, or more believable?
